Gulf Coast Autocrossers

September 18, 2022

Another Sunday and another autocross. Within a few hours travel, there are multiple organizations hosting events in South Florida on a regular basis. This was my first event with an organization called Gulf Coast Autocrossers. Since my first Street Racing Made Safe event I've been told this is where to go to really be pushed and progress as a driver.

Daniel, the fellow cofounder of Roadster Pilots has been coming to these events a while and is a big reason I came. Pictured above are his & I's cars parked up together. Typically a two day event, the Saturday session was cancelled due to storms, and I was fully prepared for Sunday to as well. Besides the one pictured section of the parking area, we thankfully had clear weather and no puddles on the course.  In addition to driving, I brought my camera and snapped pictures of some of the 100+ cars that came out. First and foremost, some of the roadsters.

We'd like to start highlighting some of the cool cars and people we stumble upon. One being this 1957 MG MGA. Speaking with the owner Rob he has done his best to keep the car as a period correct tuned up roadster, sans the modern wheel & tire setup. It's great to see cars being not only kept alive, but driven hard. Rob was our Roadster Choice for this event.

With this being my first full open field cone course, my main focus was to not get lost and keep my driving smooth. Looking back and after going for a ride along with Gio I would love to be back pushing the car harder. We are limited to four runs though, below is my best run of the day.

Danny's fastest run shown below.

For the sake of sharing, below are the rest of the paddock pictures I got, along with some additional pictures a friend Denis took.
