Miataland Italy - August 23, 2022

When imagining cars in Italy most people imagine big names such as Ferrari and Lamborghini. Dont get me wrong, Ferrari and Lamborghini are cool, but there is a car that's even cooler. This car would be the Mazda Miata.

"Why?" You ask...

Because Miata Is Always The Answer.

This is an idea that, like many Mazda Roadster enthusiasts, is shared by Andrea, the owner of Miataland.

During our 1 week Italian getaway my wife, and I stayed 1 night at Miataland. Miataland is a beautiful resort located in Umbria, Italy. This Miata themed resort is home to one of the largest private Miata collections in the world! The resort boasts stunning views of the countryside, a pool, and a villa which has been restored to include 5 suites where guest can stay.

Not only are the views outside of the villa beautiful, the inside styling and decor is incredible. Andrea puts his extensive magazine and memorabilia collection on display for the guest to enjoy. His taste in motorcycles is also fantastic. This is probably the most epic living room arrangement I've had the pleasure of seeing.

The decor does not stop at the living room. Each room is decorated with a specific Miata theme. We stayed in the M2 Blue suite. Entering the room, the first thing that caught our eye was the hand made PPF bed frame. Looking around the room the details are impressive, down to the soap and shampoo bottles.

Once we were settled in, it was time to go explore Umbria. Included with the stay, Miataland allows you to take a Miata for a tour of the countryside. Having already driven an NA, NB and NC, my natural choice was the ND. The ND in question? A 30th anniversary MX-5 RF Miataland Exclusive Edition.

The ND performed much better than I had expected. It felt extremely planted to the ground, and I felt at home driving through the Italian countryside. We had a quick stop for lunch at Il Fiashetto (Recommended by Andrea), and we continued on our journey. We proceeded to cruise around and found ourselves at Torre Baglioni.

Upon returning to the Villa, I recieved a guided tour of the collection. Andrea explained to me that many of the cars in the collection came from Japan. The cars then arrive to the UK, where he then flies over and drives them back to Italy! That's a drive that is over 20 hours! During this drive he learns as much as he can about these special vehicles.

Highlighting some of my favorites the collection:

M2 Incorporated.

M2 Incorporated was a small Roadster specialty shop. They built extremely limited high performance Roadsters. Out of many concepts only 3 models made it to the public 1001 1002 and 1028. These limited models were only available as a lottery. Unfortunately M2 Incorporated had a very short run closing in 1995. In this small amount of time they produced some of the most legendary, and highly coveted Roadsters ever. Miataland owns 5 M2 cars.

1991 M2-1001 only 300 produced

1992 M2-1002 300 were said to be produced. Not all were sold.

All in all we had a fantastic stay in Miataland. This is all thanks to the amazing hospitality of owner, and fellow Miata enthusiast, Andrea.

The next time we are in Italy this will definitely be on our itinerary again.
